At the joint conference organised by the European Society for the History of Science (ESHS) and the History of Science Society (HSS), held in Edinburgh from 12 to 16 July 2026, we presented the content of a chapter due to be published in an edited volume coordinated by François G. Schmitt and published by ISTE Editions: “From Marine Stations to Oceanography: 150 Years of History”.

The presentation took place on Monday 13 July, as part of the second part of the special session: “New Perspectives on the History of Science Diplomacy”.

It was followed by a discussion with the audience, moderated by Doubravka Olsakova (Charles University, CZ), alongside the other speakers in this sub-session: - Miles Kempton (University of Cambridge) for his presentation: “Wildlife Films and the Making of the Conservation-Ecotourism Nexus in the Galápagos Islands” - Gabriela Radulescu (Independent Scholar) for her presentation: “Cold War Reiteration of the Plurality of Worlds: The Prague Spring and ‘Communication with Extraterrestrial Intelligences’”
